Is there a higher grant for homes off the gas grid?

Yes. Homes off the gas grid on oil or LPG heating can get £9,000 towards an air-to-water or ground source heat pump — a £1,500 uplift on the standard grant. This runs from 21 July 2026 to 31 March 2027.

What grant is available for biomass boilers?

£5,000 for a biomass boiler, provided the property is off the gas grid, in a rural location, and has a valid emissions certificate.

Does an air-to-air heat pump qualify for a grant?

Yes, residential air-to-air heat pumps qualify for £2,500. This does not receive the off-gas-grid uplift available to other heat pump types.

Do I need an EPC to apply for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme?

No. The EPC requirement was removed on 28 April 2026 (SI 2026/390), so an Energy Performance Certificate is no longer needed to apply.

Who applies for the grant and how quickly must the work be done?

Your MCS-certified installer applies to Ofgem on your behalf, and the grant is deducted from your bill. Installation must then be commissioned within 120 days of the Ofgem application being approved.
